Biography of Brenda Hinchliff (née Sharp)

Brenda Sharp was born on 2 December 1946 in Padfield, Derbyshire, the youngest of five children born to Walter Sharp and Clara Sharp (née Broadbent).

Her father, Walter, worked as a council builder and tanner and served as a signaller during the Second World War. Her mother, Clara, worked as a care worker. Brenda was raised in a working-class household. Brenda is very matter of fact and stoic.

While her siblings moved to New Zealand, Canada, and across Europe, Brenda remained rooted in the original family home in Padfield. She worked for many years as a seamstress in the main clothing factory Lux Lux in Glossop, work that suited her skills and strong work ethic.

Family & Faith

Brenda has always been a loving and devoted mother to Stephen. Her faith from a young age is still expressed quietly through gratitude and patience. Brenda married in 1997 but divorced only two years later. Her mental health was affected and she moved to 20 Hadfield Road where she lived and was supported by Stephen in regard to her mental wellbeing and practical help (house maintenance etc).

Current Chapter

Following a diagnosis of dementia in 2022, Brenda decided to appoint Stephen as her Lasting Power of Attorney as her condition worsens. Brenda moved to 16 Pen-Y-Llys, Rhyl on 1 December 2025. While she faces short-term memory difficulties, she remains physically mobile and active, enjoying new activities such as Forget Me Not Choir and her new church community at Sussex Street Christian Centre.

Medication and Care

Brenda requires prompting and assistance with medication management to ensure dosages are taken at the correct times.

Brenda also requires assistance with continence management.

Typical Weekly Schedule

  • Monday: Home.
  • Tuesday (10:00 - 15:00): Long-term placement at the Dementia Centre in Mochdre.
  • Wednesday: Day care residence at Bry Derwen Care Home.
  • Thursday: Day care residence at Bry Derwen Care Home.
  • Friday: Home.
  • Saturday: Forget Me Not Choir at United Church, Rhyl.
  • Sunday (10:30 - 12:30): Service at Sussex Street Christian Centre, Rhyl.
